British blues-rock guitarist Joanne Shaw Taylor has released The Trouble With Love, her new studio album, on October 23 through Joe Bonamassa's Journeyman Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Kevin Shirley, the ten-track set examines love in its many forms, alongside a lead single that pushes its focus inward.
A Record Built on Personal Songwriting
The album blends blues, rock, soul and Americana, and it features guest appearances by Joe Bonamassa and Orianthi. Its title track, featuring Bonamassa, addresses the highs and lows of romance, which Taylor has described as an effort to document love's addictive pull. "What Good Is My Love?" with Orianthi takes up the pain of loving someone who cannot return that feeling, pairing two guitarists in an emotionally direct duet.
Several songs look at relationships from unexpected angles. "Tired of Being Right" considers the realization that a loved one may never change, while "The Girl That You Loved Before" reflects on being remembered for a version of yourself you have outgrown. A reinterpretation of Celeste's "This Is Who I Am" and the blues-gospel "Hell or High Water" extend the record's themes of identity and perseverance.
The Single That Turns Inward
The new single "Never Gonna Please 'Em All" moves the album's attention from partners to the pressures placed on women to be agreeable, quiet and small. Its refrain, "Ain't never gonna please 'em all," treats the acceptance that some people will never be satisfied as a source of freedom rather than defeat. The line "I turned my heartbreak / Into a work of art" ties the song directly to Taylor's history as a songwriter who converts personal experience into music.
Context and Upcoming Dates
Taylor was discovered at 16 by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, and she has since earned praise from musicians including Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Jimmy Cliff and Joe Bonamassa. The album arrives days before her Fall 2026 U.S. tour, which opens October 28 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Bywater Call on the early dates and Robert Jon & The Wreck on later shows. The run concludes November 21 at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey, California. Tour details are listed at joanneshawtaylor.com/tour.
